HPS PARTNERS
Designing for an audience that expects substance.
HPS Partners’ investor meeting brought together private-equity investors and institutional clients around a program focused on navigating a period of significant economic and geopolitical uncertainty. The creative needed to acknowledge that context without competing with the substance of the conversation.
The client’s theme was navigation and navigating rough seas. I used that idea as the starting point for the visual identity, developing a language of topographic maps, layered textures, photography, and video. Rather than creating something overly literal or decorative, I wanted the environment to feel editorial and considered, with enough visual tension to give the meeting a point of view while remaining appropriate for the audience.
I led the creative across the experience, from environmental graphics and wayfinding to presentations, motion, digital content, and the live show. The visual language carried through the room and onto the stage, connecting the physical environment with the conversations taking place throughout the program.
For this audience, restraint was as important as impact. The design had to establish a strong atmosphere without getting in the way of the speakers, information, or ideas being presented. That meant knowing when to make the visual system assertive and when to let the content take over.
The result was a visual identity that gave a traditional investor meeting a more distinctive point of view while creating an environment where the subject matter, speakers, and conversation remained the focus.
